about

Hippocamping is the latest release from the indie dream folk duo from Brisbane Australia, and is the first single from the sophomore album which will be called "The Big Surreal", which is due for release in 2021. What started as a track vision for a blissed out, Californian coastline, afternoon drive vibe, quickly began to push boundaries with the addition of more electronic elements, slightly departing from the pastural folk from the debut release, but still remaining deeply rooted in dreamfolk with heavy focus on vocal harmony and melody.

Thematically, it is a nostalgic illustration of spending time with memories, led through a narrative of a dinner date with a seahorse, and wondering whether another invite will ever come. Hippocamping is certainly a step in a progressed direction for the pair, while maintaining the base instrumentation of where it all began.

lyrics

Invited underwater to a place preparing a meal was a seahorse selecting fine natatorial delicacies, while on to the bed with the peels.

Excited I thought only, a desire with no refrain. Took the spoon right out of my mouth and glared with such disdain.

Yeah we'll nut it out when the drought is over; when the days reset and clouds are getting slower; when thunderstorms drench this bed of clover; well before that time don't bother coming over.

Yeah, struggling, trying to find your footsteps, digging oystered heels in the ground.
Yeah contemplating when will bring the floods next, holding out for inkling of sound of the ladybird, who had come to predict the rain.

When my my mouth opened, swarming quivers of quivering wings returned to whence they came.

about

Spring Skier Brisbane, Australia

If the warmth of company can combat the cold of distance and solitude, then in the pairing of their singular visions, Remy Boccalatte and Kane Mazlin surely stir the fires of folk and reverie. Within the comfort of that gentle crackle forms an ageless Simon and Garfunkle-esque pop, held not by the calendar or the clock, but by shared imagination.
